Atlantic Beach
Discover Atlantic Beach, North Carolina
The oldest beach town on Bogue Banks, and the gateway to the Crystal Coast.
Atlantic Beach is where the Crystal Coast beach experience begins for most people. The oldest and most established town on Bogue Banks, it sits at the island's eastern end, just across the causeway bridge from Morehead City, and it pairs old-school beach-town charm with easy access and modern amenities. Ocean on one side, Bogue Sound on the other, and a genuine year-round community in between.

Life at the beach
The heart of town is The Circle, the walkable oceanfront district where the causeway meets the beach, full of restaurants, beach shops, and ice cream stands, the classic boardwalk-town feel. At the island's eastern tip, Fort Macon State Park guards Beaufort Inlet with a restored Civil War-era fort and some of the cleanest, least crowded beaches on the island, drawing more than a million visitors a year. The Oceanana Fishing Pier is one of the last classic piers on the Southern Outer Banks.
On the water
The town stretches from the Atlantic on the south to Bogue Sound on the north, and homes reflect that: oceanfront and ocean-view properties, sound-side homes with dock potential, condominiums, and beach cottages, a mix of vacation rentals and year-round residences. Beaufort Inlet and Bogue Inlet put boaters and anglers minutes from the water.
Getting around
Atlantic Beach is the easiest Bogue Banks town to reach from the mainland, connected to Morehead City by the Atlantic Beach Causeway bridge. Beaufort and the rest of the Crystal Coast, and the other Bogue Banks beach communities along NC-58, are a short drive away.
Schools
Atlantic Beach is served by Carteret County Schools.
